Your guide on what to wear to sorority rush
Sorority rush can be somewhat intimidating, especially when it comes to what to wear! We want to help take some of the anxiety out of the process and help you enjoy your rush experience. It makes a world of difference if you can walk into a situation feeling confident in how you look. Clothing should not be something to stress about, but something that will simply enhance who you are and help you shine in a room full of people!
Open House/Ice water tea round will be the first two days of rush. You will be going to each sorority and meeting their members. This is your time to make a great first impression. With that said, there will be a lot of walking around in hot and humid weather from one place to the next. Ideally a cute and simple sundress and flat comfortable sandals will be your best bet. Be sure to wear something that is not going to wrinkle easily and that will not cling to you if you get hot and sweaty. You will probably see both solid and printed dresses. Wear whatever suits your style!
Philanthropy round, days 3 and 4 of rush, will involve going back to sororities that have extended an invitation for you to revisit. You will have an opportunity to learn more about these sororities, and about the philanthropies they support. These two days are a breeze because you will wear shorts paired with a t-shirt you have been given. Usually a basic color such as white, black, khaki or olive is ideal. Shorts that are too short or have holes and rips are generally not recommended. Again it is best to wear comfortable shoes as you may be doing a lot of walking around!
Sisterhood round will be days 5 and 6. These days will give you the chance to choose a few sororities to visit, and spend a little more time getting to know what they are all about. Attire for these two days is usually a nicer dress with wedges or heels. Think classy and timeless style. This will be your dressiest day yet, so use this opportunity to really make a statement. Some girls will throw in a pair of flats to carry around in their bag to wear between houses.
Preference day will have you on the home stretch of rush week! On this day you will visit with two or three sororities who are serious about you becoming a member. This is a good day to think about what you really want out of a sorority. Pref day will be your most formal day of recruitment. Nice dresses with heels are the name of the game. Try to keep your look classy and avoid dresses that are too short or too tight. A dress you might wear to a wedding or graduation ceremony would be appropriate for pref day. We like to say save your best look for last!
Bid day is by far the most exciting day of rush! You will finally know what sorority you are going to be joining and all your hard work is complete. Once you receive your bid you will be given a t shirt or jersey with your sorority letters. Your best bet is to wear shorts and a basic top so you can throw on your t-shirt as soon as you can!
