Taking our pumpkin obsession to a new level — skincare
We’re not ashamed to admit it – Ellie Clothing loves everything and anything pumpkin. We were first in line for pumpkin spice lattes, stocked up on pumpkin candles, our pumpkin obsession knows no bounds. So naturally, when we heard that pumpkin is full of antioxidants, vitamins A and C and alpha-hydroxy acids (which are amazing for exfoliating), we had to put it to the test.
We tested a pumpkin pie sugar scrub and a pumpkin body mask, both DIY and both we made with ingredients you already have. We found the pumpkin pie sugar scrub on Mason Jar Love and the pumpkin body mask on The Beauty Bean, which also had two other pumpkin recipes that we didn’t try.
Pumpkin Pie Scrub via Mason Jar Love
- 3/4 cup Vegetable Oil
- 2 Tablespoons pumpkin pie spice
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 1 cup granulated sugar
Mix all ingredients together with a spoon – or your hands. We found better luck with doing this by hand, after we washed them, of course! This was enough for a pint mason jar and a half. As far as sugar scrubs go, this one is a little messy, so make sure to use it in the bathtub or over the sink!
Sugar scrubs are easy to make, and are adorable gifts. These could easily be in Thanksgiving goody bags or Christmas presents.
Pumpkin Body Mask via Beauty Bean
- 1/2 cup pumpkin puree (fresh or canned)
- 1/2 cup virgin coconut oil
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Mix all the ingredients and apply to clean skin (preferably in the shower!) and let it sit for ten minutes. Rinse it off and get ready for the softest skin you’ll ever have! This is one that you have to use ASAP – the coconut oil doesn’t stay a liquid for long! Make sure that you rinse it completely off, as the pumpkin stays on your skin and could leave you looking like an Oompa Loompa.
Both of these recipes were tested in the Ellie Clothing office and we can’t stop obsessing over how delicious we smell and how soft our hands are! Our pumpkin obsession has officially reached a new level.
